In the autumn of 2023, Marianne and Brett of Underhill, Vermont sought a more efficient solution for heating and cooling their home, along with a contractor to install heat pumps. Knowing that an Energy Audit is a great first step to assess your home’s energy consumption and determine which measures would best help to make your home more energy efficient, they decided to start there. They were directed to Building Energy through Efficiency Vermont’s Find a Contractor tool. Marianne and Brett recognized Building Energy as a long-standing member of Efficiency Vermont’s Efficiency Excellence Network, appreciated our wide range of services, and valued the many positive reviews they saw online.

The energy audit was carried out by Jacob Smeriglio-BPI Certified, Senior Auditor at Building Energy. Jacob’s comprehensive energy audit report mapped out a plan to achieve improved energy efficiency through weatherization. Marianne and Brett made the decision to prioritize the installation of cold climate heat pumps. Building Energy’s skilled heat pump installation team successfully completed a turn-key project. We installed a Mitsubishi multi-zone Cold Climate heat pump system with 3 indoor units in their bedrooms complimenting their baseboard heating and pellet stove in the main living area.

While Marianne and Brett were eager to incorporate renewable energy into their home upgrade plans, their roof was not suitable for solar panels. A decision was made to build a carport to not only support solar panels but accommodate their electric vehicles as well. Building Energy has both a full-service construction and in-house solar installation division. It was an obvious choice to hire us for both the carport construction and solar installation. Bryan Bergeron, our Senior Construction Manager, managed the carport construction project and Nik Ponzio, our Senior Solar Engineer managed the solar. To enhance this exciting home project, a decision was made to incorporate a large-capacity battery backup system. Now they will never have to fear a power outage in Underhill!

What’s next for their home? Weatherizing the basement and attic space!

Marianne and Brett say, when asked about doing business with Building Energy: “They all did quality work, they were great at communicating their schedules and what they were doing. Most importantly, I felt very comfortable with them in my home. They all seemed like genuinely good people.”

Thank You for choosing us, Marianne & Brett!
