Building Energy helps to transform Riverflow Community’s Inaugural Residence, Willow House.

Since our last update on the Riverflow project, it has been steadily finding its rhythm. We
concluded Part One of our update just as the insulation phase was beginning. Since that update,
the attic & basement spaces have been insulated and air sealed using dense pack cellulose and
spray foam insulation. To further reduce air flow, we capped off 4 of the 6 brick chimneys on the
property. We further tightened the vapor barrier by replacing several doors, windows, and storm
windows. We are excited to report that construction of Willow House, the first home at the
Riverflow Community has been finished! After the comprehensive air sealing, insulation, and
ventilation improvements were made, this home achieved a substantial reduction in air leakage
– almost 90% – a huge improvement in terms of energy efficiency and comfort for the residence.
The four friends that now call Riverflow “Home” have been doing so, since October 2024!

Part One of our project update also detailed how we removed the old kitchen and built a new kitchen in the former dining room space.  It was in desperate need of a lot of work. Upon finishing that project, we then installed an ADA compliant bathroom. To tie it altogether, we made sure that nothing big or small went unattended to.
There was lots of patch and repair work that was needed throughout the building that we took
care of. The outside of the home was finished with a beautiful paint job. The decision was
unanimous when ditching the yellow was met with embracing a sharp & professional
blue–creating a fresh & calming vibe.

Riverflow Community’s website states, “In under a year, our 8-bedroom home was renovated with
warmth, beauty, energy efficiency, life safety, and accessibility in mind.” Here at Building Energy,
we are filled with gratitude for being chosen to be involved in this project and trusted to help
create a safe and comfortable space for Willow’s residents!
